Afilias is a global leader in advanced registry services that power successful domains. Afilias began operations in July 2001 with the launch of .INFO — the most successful new TLD ever launched. In 2003, Afilias successfully executed the largest registry transition to date when it took over the back-end services for .ORG’s over 2.4 million domains. Today, Afilias supports a wide variety of top-level domains, including TLDs for countries, cities, brands, communities and generic terms.

In December 2017 Afilias Australia Pty. Ltd. was chosen by .au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) to provide registry services in support of Australia’s .AU country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) beginning July 1, 2018. The selection is the culmination of a careful, public Request for Tender process kicked off by auDA on September 1, 2017. Afilias was selected from a wide range of applicants from all over the world.

Under the agreement, Afilias will expand its presence in Australia with an operating center in Melbourne, data centers in at least two locations, and DNS servers all over the country. These moves will enable Afilias to provide 24×7 service to registrars and provide resources to work closely with auDA to further develop the .au namespace.

You can follow along with the transition process right here on the .AU Transformation blog.
